A few months ago, Shannon and I decided to get into horror. Our nascent cinemaphilia meant that we were leagues behind the zeitgeist when it came to appreciating the nuanced social commentary proffered by contemporary hits like The Substance (2024) and Midsommar (2019). Emboldened by what we thought was our creative obligation to engage with alternative perspectives, we endeavoured to watch the entirety of the A24 catalogue and began with Hereditary (2018).
